Foster Village started in 2016 as a grass-roots community movement, grown by passionate and like-minded community members with a desire to use their time, gifts, and resources to make a difference in the lives of our most vulnerable neighbors. Whether your contribution is time, monthly financial support, donations of necessary items, corporate sponsorship, or specific talents that you'd like to share- we'd love to have you as part of the village.
Current Volunteer Opportunities:
Delivery Team- We need help delivering Welcome Packs, beds, car seats, and other basic necessities to children entering foster care! Volunteers must be willing to drive to either Round Rock or Dripping Springs to pick up donations and deliver to foster homes in the Austin area. Commitment and hours are flexible, compassion for children and families walking through hard circumstances is a must. We add volunteers to a group notification app where you'll have the option to step up for needs as they arise based on your own availability. Background check and training will be provided.
Sorting and Organizing- We host occasional sorting days throughout the year at our Resource Centers in Dripping Springs and Round Rock. Sign-up for our Oak Haven Team in Dripping Springs and/or follow our Facebook page for any upcoming sorting and organizing volunteer events.
Internship- opportunities to work in the field of foster care and social work. Experience with child development, foster care, social work, or health and human services is a plus. Flexible schedule and commitment. (Currently accepting Spring and Summer 2019 applicants)
Fundraising /Event Committee- help with planning and preparing fundraiser's and events throughout the year. Prior non-profit fundraising or event planning experience a plus. Flexible schedule and time commitment.
Leadership Roles- We are looking for "doers" with a passion for making a difference in the lives of children in foster care. If you've ever wanted to take the reigns on a project that uses your unique gifts to enrich the lives of others, then we would love to have you on our team! We are looking for someone who can commit to at least two hours per week but hours and location are flexible.
Foster Parent's Night Out babysitting- Foster Village hosts a quarterly Foster Parent's Night Out at Austin Ridge church in Oak Hill and we are always looking for extra helpers with a desire to love on some of these precious children for a few hours while their foster parents take a well-deserved break.
All volunteers are subject to criminal background checks. Please fill out a volunteer form with your interests, location, and availability and we will be in touch:
Donations and group projects:
When you donate items from our list of needs, they will be available directly to those caring for children in the central Texas foster care system. We organize basic necessities, clothes, new undergarments, socks, toothbrushes, and some wish list items into Welcome Packs for each child who come into care, along with supplying families with larger new items such as beds, cribs, and car seats. When available, we also include thoughtful donations- in the form of gift certificates or discount cards- from local businesses that want to support and uplift foster families and children. Your monetary and tangible donations are making a significant impact in the lives of these children and the families caring for them.
Here is a list of in-kind donations that we are currently able to accept:
(Please Note: We can only accept very few items that are not brand new.
quality is more helpful than quantity)
Snap n Go strollers
Baby monitors (video monitors are in especially high demand for safety reasons)
Preemie size clothes in ‘like new’ condition
New packs of diapers, all sizes
New packs of socks, all sizes
New underpants, all sizes
Gift cards for teens entering foster care to pick out new undergarments and basic needs
Please note that we are NOT accepting toys and books at this time due to an overwhelming amount in inventory. Other items we are NOT able to take: used car seats, used cribs/beds, used bottles and cups, used socks and undergarments, training potty seats, baby gear that can be purchased new for less than $20, and any items that are stained, damaged, or missing parts.
We want the children who receive your donations to know that they are truly valued, so we only accept a limited amount of donations that are not brand new.
As another option for gently used donations, we created a page on Facebook called Foster Village Swap where donations can be posted and coordinated directly with local foster families.
Please fill out the form below if you have items that you are interested in donating for local foster families (our donation drop off locations are currently in Dripping Springs, Round Rock, and north Austin). We will contact you to let you know if we are able to accept your items and where they can be dropped off. Thank you!
If you'd like to purchase items that we are in greatest need of for children entering foster care, they can also be delivered directly to us via Amazon:
Some other ways to get involved:
We can provide you with the steps and graphics to organizing the following (please contact us for permission before listing us as a beneficiary for any event):
* Host a donation drive to collect these much needed new items- socks, diapers, underpants, hair brushes, pajamas, children's bibles, and gift cards for foster families.
* Create packages of encouragement for foster families needing a boost.
* Host a fundraiser. Whether it's a child's lemonade stand or an established business wanting to give back to the community, we are grateful for our partners with a desire to show their support for foster families and the children in their care.
* Become a monthly partner. You choose the amount that you are able to contribute each month to make it possible for us to meet the needs of these children and families.
Email us at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information about any of these opportunities.
